A new Durham mental health crisis committee will bring hospitals, police and paramedics together to improve transitions into emergency care for people in crisis.
Lakeridge Health announced the Durham Region Police-Hospital Committee September 24 with Durham police, OPP and Durham paramedics.
Emergency transitions examined
The group will focus on police transfers to Lakeridge emergency departments for mental health assessment and treatment. Partners aim for consistent processes supporting safety, privacy, dignity and human rights.
It will review issues, identify improvements, coordinate training and evaluate transition processes while examining barriers to timely care.
Leaders involved
Leadership from all four organizations will participate. Patient and Family Advisors and community partners may be invited, but have not yet been named.
