An Ajax gun-trafficking investigation has resulted in charges against an Ajax woman and three other people after Peel Regional Police say an undercover operation disrupted a network operating across the Greater Toronto Area.
Peel Police announced the results of Project Red Zone on September 22. The force said the operation began in October 2025 and remained active until July 2026, with support from the United States Department of Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.
Ajax resident among four people charged
Police identified Akshaya Srikanthan, 24, of Ajax as one of four people charged. The allegations against her are 11 counts of firearms trafficking and seven counts of trafficking in a controlled substance. Peel Police said she was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
The other accused are Stephen Prakash Consala, 24, of Scarborough; Sammy Shaik, 28, of Mississauga; and Janoj Dhayabaran, 23, of Toronto. Police said Consala and Dhayabaran were held pending bail hearings, while Shaik was released with a future court appearance.
None of the allegations has been tested in court. All accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Police report firearms, drugs and ammunition seized
According to Peel Police, Project Red Zone led to the seizure of 23 firearms, 824.75 grams of cocaine and 951 rounds of ammunition. Investigators said 15 of the firearms originated in the United States and that several were prohibited in Canada.
Police also said forensic analysis connected seized firearms to 14 shootings across the GTA. One recovered firearm was linked to a March 2024 homicide in Mississauga, in which one man was killed and another seriously injured.
The announcement does not allege that the Ajax resident was connected to a specific shooting or the 2024 homicide. The charges listed by police concern alleged trafficking offences.
Charges are allegations before the court
Police releases identify allegations and charges laid by investigators; they do not determine guilt. The future court process will decide whether the allegations against each accused are proven. Peel Police said the operation was funded through the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, with CISO supporting the investigation. The release did not specify whether alleged trafficking activity occurred in Ajax or elsewhere in Durham Region.
What Project Red Zone investigated
Peel Police described Project Red Zone as an undercover investigation into a firearm-trafficking network operating across the GTA. The service said its Specialized Enforcement Bureau worked with federal and cross-border partners during the investigation.

While the investigation was led outside Durham Region, the identification of an Ajax resident makes the case locally relevant. The release is an allegation-based police update, and further information may emerge through court proceedings.
