A six-year-old Whitby chess player selected to represent Team Canada is seeking community support for travel to the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship in Spain.
Srihan is expected to compete in the under-seven division. Tournament registration and the player’s accommodation are covered, while the family is raising money for airfare, an accompanying parent’s lodging and meals, and coaching and preparation costs.
Fundraiser targets $2,600
The family launched a public fundraiser with a $2,600 goal. The campaign says contributions will help pay for round-trip travel, on-site costs for a parent and professional tournament preparation.
The selection gives Srihan an opportunity to compete internationally at an early stage in his chess development. The fundraiser is organized by his family in Whitby.
