The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Durham Region Animal Centre will reduce Durham adoption fees for adult cats, dogs and rabbits during a two-day event this week.
Fall Adoption Days will run Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26. Adoption fees for eligible animals will be reduced by 15 per cent.
Centre reports unusually high number of animals
The provincial organization says more than 650 animals are currently in its care across 13 animal centres, a five-year high. The Durham centre says the event is intended to help animals find homes while creating space for others that may need care.
Ontario SPCA adoptions for cats and dogs include spaying or neutering, vaccinations and microchipping. Prospective adopters should review each animal’s profile and the centre’s adoption process before visiting.
Durham centre open daily
The Durham Region Animal Centre is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Available animals can change quickly, and a reduced fee does not remove the usual suitability and adoption requirements.
Residents who are not ready to adopt can also review foster and volunteer opportunities through the centre.
