Oshawa and southern Durham Region can expect a cooler, breezy Wednesday with a brief chance of showers before skies begin clearing later in the day.

The updated Durham July 22 weather forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud, a 30 per cent chance of early-afternoon showers and northwest wind gusts reaching 50 kilometres per hour.

Durham July 22 Weather Includes Brief Shower Risk

Environment Canada’s forecast issued at 11 a.m. says Oshawa could experience scattered showers during the early afternoon.

The hourly forecast showed a 30 per cent chance of rain around 2 p.m. Conditions were expected to transition to a mix of sun and cloud later in the afternoon, with the chance of precipitation falling to approximately 20 per cent.

The daytime high is expected to reach 22 C.

At 1 p.m., Oshawa Executive Airport reported cloudy skies and a temperature of 18.5 C. Northwest winds were blowing at 32 km/h, with visibility reported at 16 kilometres.

Northwest winds are expected to continue at approximately 30 km/h during the afternoon, with gusts reaching 50 km/h.

The stronger wind could move unsecured patio furniture, temporary signs, recycling containers and other lightweight outdoor objects. Drivers and cyclists may also encounter crosswinds on exposed roads, bridges and waterfront routes.

Skies Expected to Clear Wednesday Night

Conditions should improve through Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada forecasts partly cloudy skies before conditions clear near midnight. Northwest winds of approximately 20 km/h are expected to become lighter later in the evening.

The overnight temperature will fall to approximately 13 C.

The cooler and less humid night will provide a noticeable change from the warmer and stormier conditions experienced earlier in the week.

People attending outdoor activities should still bring a light jacket or additional layer, particularly during the late evening.

Sunny Weather Returns Thursday

Thursday is expected to bring sunny skies and a daytime high near 25 C.

The overnight forecast calls for clear conditions and a low of approximately 12 C. Friday should also remain sunny, with temperatures reaching about 26 C before falling to 16 C overnight.

The UV index was forecast to reach seven on Wednesday, which Environment Canada classifies as high. Sun protection may still be required during brighter periods despite the cloud cover and cooler temperature.

Residents spending extended periods outdoors should consider using sunscreen, wearing a hat and seeking shade during the strongest afternoon sunlight.

Showers Could Return During the Weekend

The longer-range forecast includes another possibility of unsettled weather during the weekend.

Saturday is expected to reach approximately 27 C with a 30 per cent chance of showers. The chance of rain could rise to 40 per cent Saturday night.

Sunday could reach 28 C with a 40 per cent chance of showers during the day. Environment Canada currently forecasts another chance of rain Sunday night and Monday.

Long-range forecasts can change as weather systems develop, so residents planning weekend events should review the latest conditions closer to their activity.

The Durham July 22 weather forecast should also be updated if Environment Canada changes the wind speed, shower probability or alert status.

For Wednesday, Oshawa residents should prepare for gusty northwest winds and a brief chance of showers, followed by clearing skies overnight and sunny weather on Thursday.
