An Oshawa medical building remains closed after a large section of its surface parking lot collapsed into an underground parking area, causing flooding and disrupting health-care services.
The Oshawa Health Centre sinkhole developed Saturday morning at the building near Simcoe Street North and Adelaide Avenue. Emergency crews responded at approximately 8 a.m. after the parking surface gave way above the underground garage.
No injuries were reported, but the building was closed while engineers and emergency officials assessed its structural condition.
Oshawa Health Centre Sinkhole Causes Flooding
The collapse was accompanied by a damaged water line and significant flooding around the property. Some water damage was also reported inside the building.
Power and natural gas service were temporarily shut off as a safety precaution. A lane of Simcoe Street North and access to Adelaide Avenue were also closed while firefighters, police and other responders secured the area.
Durham Regional Police spokesperson Kristie Jones told the original publication that emergency crews were assessing the structural integrity of the building. Authorities had not released a final engineering assessment or confirmed when tenants would be allowed to return.
Power and gas service were later restored, and the affected roadway lanes and sidewalk reopened. However, the medical building itself remained inaccessible.
Oshawa Diagnostic and Vascular Imaging, one of the health-care providers operating from the property, posted an emergency notice stating that its facility was immediately closed because of structural damage and flooding. The clinic said nobody was permitted to enter the building and that temporary service arrangements were being organized.

The Oshawa Health Centre contains several medical services, including diagnostic imaging, laboratory facilities and physician offices. Patients with upcoming appointments should contact their individual clinic or health-care provider before travelling to the building.
Appointments may be cancelled, postponed or transferred to another location while inspections and repairs continue. Patients should rely on direct communication from their clinic because reopening timelines may differ between providers.
Anyone requiring urgent medical assistance should not attend the closed building. Patients experiencing an emergency should call 911 or visit an appropriate hospital emergency department.

Oshawa Diagnostic and Vascular Imaging referred to nearby construction in its closure notice, while other reports described the water-line rupture as occurring during the parking-lot collapse.
