Sue Cullen Green has received Whitby’s 2026 Peter Perry Award, recognizing a community-service record that spans gardens, mental-health support, public art and local philanthropy.
The Whitby Chamber of Commerce announced the honour on November 6. Mayor Elizabeth Roy named Green as the recipient during the chamber’s November 5 awards gathering at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility.
Green helped her father, Len Cullen, operate Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village. The chamber says her later volunteer work has included Distress Centre Durham, Whitby in Bloom, the Mayor’s Community Development Fund, the Abilities Centre and the Bell Box Mural Project.
Her contributions also include helping create bronze tributes to Len Cullen and Sir William Stephenson, and advocating for parkland and a Wounded Warriors space at the former gardens property.
Green and her husband, Bryan, have provided matching donations for the Abilities Centre and Station Gallery. The chamber also credits her with successful nominations of other community contributors for national and local honours.
The Peter Perry Award honours lasting contributions to Whitby. The chamber administers its nomination and selection process; the award is distinct from an earlier call for nominations.
