A 14-year-old Oshawa student has been arrested after a prank call led to a School Lockdown at Harmony Heights Public School on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) responded to a reported shooting threat at the school around 2 p.m.
A large police presence was quickly deployed, including several units and the K9 unit, to ensure the safety of students and staff. However, it was later determined that the threat was a hoax, and the situation was resolved without incident.
The teenager was charged with criminal harassment, mischief, endangerment, and other offenses. DRPS emphasized that these types of incidents are not jokes, as they cause unnecessary fear and divert critical resources from real emergencies.
This is the second school threat in Durham Region this year. On January 28, a similar incident occurred at William Dunbar Public School in Pickering, which also resulted in a lockdown
