The Quadball Canada National Championship is returning to Oshawa this weekend, bringing top teams from across the country together to compete for the national title.
The championship will take place on March 14 and March 15, 2026, at the Oshawa Civic Fieldhouse, where spectators will have the opportunity to watch one of Canada’s most unique and fast-growing sports.
Organized by Quadball Canada, the event will feature teams travelling from different parts of the country to compete in a high-energy tournament that showcases athletic skill, teamwork and strategy.
Admission to the event is free, making it an accessible opportunity for residents and visitors to experience competitive quadball up close.
Quadball, formerly known internationally as quidditch, is a mixed-gender contact sport that combines elements of rugby, dodgeball and handball. The game is played with players running with a broom between their legs while competing to score points by throwing a ball through elevated hoops.
Over the years, the sport has gained popularity across Canada and internationally, with university teams, community clubs and national competitions continuing to grow.
Oshawa has played an important role in the development of the sport within the region. The city has previously hosted several major quadball events, including the Eastern Regional Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2022.
Most recently, Oshawa also hosted the Quadball Canada National Championship in 2024, further strengthening its connection with the sport.
Local organizers say the return of the national championship to Oshawa highlights the city’s reputation as a strong host for major sporting events.
The competition will run throughout the weekend, with games scheduled during the day at the Oshawa Civic Fieldhouse.
On Saturday, March 14, matches will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The championship will continue on Sunday, March 15, with games running from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m., when the national champion is expected to be crowned.
Fans attending the event will be able to watch some of the top quadball teams in Canada battle for the title while experiencing the fast pace and unique style of the sport.
Organizers encourage local residents, sports fans and families to come out to the venue and support the teams competing for the championship.
With a growing interest in quadball and strong support from Sport Durham and the City of Oshawa, the event is expected to attract both players and spectators from across the country.
