Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) continues its Pickering William Dunbar School Investigation following multiple incidents at William Dunbar Public School in Pickering. Officers were called to respond to recent reports, including a threat, that raised concerns among students, parents, and staff.
Parents have expressed frustration over what they describe as limited communication and supervision during the recent hold-and-secure alert. “The handling of the Pickering William Dunbar School Investigation has left caregivers feeling unsettled, especially as children were kept in portable classrooms for extended periods,” said community member Sam Snyders.
DRPS confirmed that several incidents, including threats, are under active investigation. “We are committed to the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and the wider school community during this ongoing Pickering William Dunbar School Investigation,” the police said in a statement.
As a precaution, DRPS is maintaining an increased presence in the area around the school. Officers from the School Liaison Unit are conducting additional visits to provide support, reinforce safety practices, and engage with students and staff.
