A Pickering man has been charged following a gunfire incident at a home in Stouffville, according to York Regional Police. The shooting occurred last month and caused damage to a residential property, though fortunately no injuries were reported.

Police say officers responded to reports of gunshots shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The incident took place on Harold Avenue near Ninth Line in Stouffville, a community located in York Region. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that a house in the area had been struck by gunfire.

Investigators quickly secured the area and began gathering evidence. Police confirmed that the home had visible damage consistent with gunfire, though the occupants of the residence were not physically harmed. Authorities have not released further details about how many shots were fired or whether anyone was inside the home at the time of the incident.

Following the initial response, York Regional Police launched a detailed investigation into the shooting. Officers worked to identify those responsible by reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses, speaking with potential witnesses, and collecting forensic evidence from the scene.

After several weeks of investigative work, police say they identified a suspect connected to the incident. On March 4, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Pickering, located in Durham Region. During the operation, police arrested 34-year-old Pirasanna Balasubranamiyam of Pickering in connection with the gunfire incident.

According to York Regional Police, the suspect now faces several criminal charges. These include two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, two counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or if the suspect was known to the occupants of the Stouffville home. Investigators also have not indicated whether additional suspects may be involved. Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing as officers continue reviewing evidence and pursuing additional leads.

York Regional Police are encouraging members of the public who may have information related to the incident to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in surveillance video, cell phone footage, or dashcam recordings from the area around Harold Avenue and Ninth Line during the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Firearms Investigations Team at 1-866-876-5423, extension 7817. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting their website.

Police remind the public that the charges laid against the accused are allegations that have not yet been proven in court, and the individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty under Canadian law.

Investigators say updates may be released as the case progresses.
