An Oshawa man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left the victim in serious condition for weeks. Nathan Kumar Persaud, 29, of Oshawa, is facing multiple charges following a pedestrian accident in Markham, which occurred on February 19, 2026. According to York Regional Police, the victim, a woman, was struck by a vehicle at Denison Street and Featherstone Avenue, north of McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue East.
The incident took place at 3:41 p.m., and the woman was found approximately 50 metres east of the intersection, having been struck and carried on the hood of the vehicle. Emergency services took the woman to a trauma centre, where she remained in serious condition with life-altering injuries. As of Wednesday, she continued to be treated for her injuries.
The York Regional Police launched an investigation and last Friday, the suspect was arrested after police executed search warrants at residences associated with Persaud in Toronto, Oshawa, and Richmond Hill. During the searches, investigators seized the suspect vehicle and a quantity of controlled substances. Authorities also believe that Persaud attempted to conceal his identity and made efforts to repair damage to the vehicle to avoid detection.
The police are appealing to the public for help in the investigation, specifically asking anyone who may have sold parts to Persaud or unknowingly performed repairs on the vehicle to come forward. Investigators also warned that anyone who helped the suspect conceal, repair, or alter the vehicle may face charges for being an accessory after the fact, which includes anyone who performed body work, paint work, or mechanical repairs intended to hide the damage caused by the collision.
Persaud has been charged with multiple offenses, including dangerous operation causing bodily harm, dangerous operation, failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, and trafficking opioids. He also faces two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is currently in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
