Spring may be just around the corner, but southern Ontario, including Durham Region, is set to experience another round of snow and wintry temperatures this weekend. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, after a brief warm spell with temperatures around 11°C and the chance of thunderstorms on Thursday, the colder weather will return on Friday, March 27, 2026.

On Friday, Durham Region—including Pickering, Ajax, and Oshawa—can expect a high of 1°C and a low of -11°C, with frigid temperatures making it feel more like winter rather than spring. The cold temperatures will persist throughout the weekend, affecting not only Durham but also other areas in southern Ontario, including Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton. The cold front moving in on Friday will bring wintry conditions, including snowfall.

For Saturday, March 28, Durham Region will experience a 40% chance of flurries, with partly sunny skies throughout the day. The high will hover around 2°C, and the low will remain at -11°C in the evening. So while the day may start off with a few snowflakes, it will stay cold, and residents should prepare for another chilly night.

However, Sunday, March 29, offers a bit of relief as temperatures will warm up slightly, with a high of 7°C and mainly sunny skies in the GTA. The evening will see a low of 1°C, still chilly, but less severe than the earlier days of the weekend. Despite the warming temperatures, there may still be a chill in the air, so residents are advised to dress in layers.

Looking ahead to Monday, March 30, the weather will continue to improve with a high of 8°C, and Environment Canada predicts a pleasant, milder day. In the Greater Toronto Area, the Weather Network is forecasting a high of 15°C—a welcome shift from the wintry conditions earlier in the weekend. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the arrival of warmer temperatures could also bring wind gusts and some lingering cloud cover.

Durham Region residents, particularly those in Oshawa, Whitby, and Clarington, should remain prepared for the cold temperatures and potential snow this weekend. Winter clothing, including coats, gloves, and hats, is still recommended, especially if heading outside in the early mornings or evenings.

With the changing weather, it’s also important for drivers in Durham Region to be aware of icy road conditions and slippery sidewalks, especially with the potential for snow and flurries on Friday and Saturday.

Spring may be in the air, but winter’s grip isn’t quite ready to loosen in Durham Region. Stay informed and be prepared for what looks like a cold, snowy weekend.
