Durham police say investigators have determined that the September 7 fire at McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home was deliberately set, a major update in the Oshawa funeral home arson investigation.
Police are searching for suspects and asking the public for video or information about the early-morning fire at 152 King Street East.
Fire occurred shortly after 4 a.m.
Central East Division officers responded at approximately 4:05 a.m. on Monday, September 7, to assist Oshawa Fire Services. Officers provided traffic control while firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The building was described in earlier reporting as a total loss. No injuries were reported, and the funeral home subsequently moved services temporarily to Mount Lawn Funeral Home.
The initial finding was that the fire was suspicious. In a September 15 release, police said further investigation established that arson caused it. They have not released a suspect description, motive or information about how it was started.
Investigators request recordings
Anyone who was in downtown Oshawa around the time of the fire is asked to review cellphone, dash-camera and surveillance recordings. Information can be provided to investigators or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
The Oshawa funeral home arson remains under investigation. A conclusion about the cause does not identify who was responsible, and no arrest had been announced.
