A 32-year-old man from Oshawa is facing multiple charges following a brief police pursuit, including Oshawa assault kidnapping charges, according to Durham police.
Officers were called to a disturbance near Wentworth Street West and Oxford Street, where a man allegedly assaulted a victim and forced them into a vehicle before fleeing.
The suspect vehicle was located around noon on Jan. 27. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, striking another vehicle. A brief pursuit followed, and police made intentional contact with the suspect vehicle to bring it to a stop.
The victim in the suspect vehicle sustained minor injuries, as did the driver and passenger of the second vehicle involved.
The accused now faces three counts of assault, two counts of forcible confinement, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, theft of a motor vehicle, and obstruction of a peace officer. Additional charges include operating a conveyance while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, driving while under suspension, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Durham police confirmed the man was also wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of arrest. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact them.
This case highlights the seriousness of Oshawa assault kidnapping charges and ongoing law enforcement efforts to maintain public safety.
