Blackstock Arena will not open for the season on November 7 as previously announced, after persistent warm weather forced a further delay.
The Township of Scugog has added an update to its official facility notice saying a replacement opening date has not yet been confirmed. Durham Radio News reported the additional postponement on November 4.
New update supersedes November 7 plan
The latest notice changes the timetable residents had been given for the arena at 3440 Church Street. Scugog had originally planned to open the building on November 2 before moving the start of the 2026–27 season to November 7.
That first delay followed compressor problems discovered when staff turned on the ice plant and began making ice. The township says those mechanical problems have been fixed, but warm conditions in the uninsulated arena have continued to affect ice-making.
The earlier notice explained that staff hours had been moved later in the day to take advantage of cooler evenings. The new update says the opening has been delayed further because the warm weather has persisted.
No replacement opening date yet
People arranging ice rentals, programs or visits should not rely on the earlier November 7 date. Scugog says it will provide another update once a new opening date is confirmed.
The township’s webpage still includes the earlier announcement beneath the added update. The statement at the top announcing a further delay is the current operational information; the older date below it is background, not a reconfirmation that the rink will open Saturday.
No revised date is being inferred from the weather forecast. Residents can check the official notice and the township’s facility information before making plans.
