A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed multiple times in downtown Oshawa in an early morning incident that has left the suspect still at large.
Durham Regional Police say officers were on proactive patrol in the downtown area when they discovered an injured male near the intersection of Simcoe Street and Bond Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2026.
The victim had suffered several stab wounds and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre for treatment. Police say his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
According to investigators, the stabbing had actually occurred roughly one hour before officers found the man. The initial incident took place in a nearby field, and the victim was not discovered until the patrol officers came across him.
The delay in discovery has raised concerns about the safety of downtown Oshawa during overnight hours, particularly in areas surrounding Simcoe Street, which has been the site of several violent incidents in recent months.
Police have not yet released a description of the suspect and are appealing to the public for assistance with the investigation.
Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have cell phone footage, dash camera video, or surveillance recordings from the area around Simcoe Street and Bond Avenue between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.
