Freezing Rain Expected Sunday with Milder Temperatures Overnight in Southern Ontario

After a calm but chilly Saturday, unsettled weather is set to return to southern Ontario on Sunday, with freezing rain forecast across much of the region before temperatures rise overnight.

Those heading out early may miss the sunrise, as the 7:51 a.m. sunrise is expected to be obscured by cloudy skies.

Sunday Forecast by Region

Mississauga and Brampton
Conditions will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, with freezing rain beginning around noon. Rainfall totals of five to 10 millimetres are expected. Winds will remain light at up to 15 km/h. Daytime highs will reach 2 C, though morning wind chills will make it feel closer to –9 C.

Halton and Hamilton
Cloudy skies will persist, with freezing rain developing in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts between five and 10 millimetres are possible. Highs will reach 1 C in Halton and 2 C in Hamilton, with morning wind chills ranging between –6 C and –7 C.

Durham Region
Durham will see mostly cloudy skies, with freezing rain beginning later in the afternoon. Temperatures will climb to 1 C, though wind chill values will hover near –10 C during the morning hours.

Sunset is expected at 4:48 p.m.

Sunday Night: Winds Increase, Temperatures Rise

By evening, rain will continue across Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton and Durham. Winds will strengthen overnight, with gusts reaching 50 to 70 km/h in some areas.

Temperatures will steadily rise through the night, reaching:

  • 5 C in Mississauga and Brampton
  • 1 C in Halton
  • 3 C in Durham
  • 6 C in Hamilton by Monday morning

Residents are advised to use caution on roads and walkways, as freezing rain may create slippery conditions before warmer air moves in overnight.
