Residents across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) should prepare for colder and windy conditions as the March 12 weather southern Ontario forecast predicts flurries and strong wind gusts throughout the day.

According to Environment Canada, Thursday will begin with cloudy skies across southern Ontario, including cities such as Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering and Whitby in Durham Region, along with Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and Niagara Falls.

Forecasters say there will be a 30 per cent chance of flurries during the morning and afternoon, with cold northwest winds expected to move through the region.

Wind speeds could reach around 30 kilometres per hour, with gusts as strong as 60 km/h in parts of the GTA. Some surrounding areas may see gusts closer to 50 km/h, creating chilly conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.

Temperatures will remain low during the day, with a forecast high of about 2°C in parts of southern Ontario. However, the strong winds will make it feel significantly colder, with the wind chill making temperatures feel closer to –9°C.

Weather experts say these wind conditions can make outdoor activities uncomfortable and may also reduce visibility if flurries become heavier in some areas.

Drivers traveling through Durham Region and other parts of the GTA are encouraged to remain cautious, especially if brief snow showers reduce visibility or if strong winds affect road conditions.

As the day progresses, conditions are expected to gradually improve. Thursday night should bring clearer skies across much of southern Ontario, although winds may remain noticeable.

Environment Canada forecasts wind gusts of up to 40 km/h during the evening hours, while temperatures will drop overnight.

The overnight low is expected to fall to around –6°C, though wind chill values could make it feel closer to –10°C in some areas.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, Friday’s weather forecast suggests another shift in conditions.

Environment Canada predicts periods of snow or rain on Friday, along with continued windy weather. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach around 1°C, with more flurries possible during the evening hours.

Late winter weather patterns across southern Ontario often bring fluctuating conditions, with temperatures shifting between mild and cold as spring approaches.

Meteorologists say these changing weather systems can lead to quick transitions between rain, snow, wind and cold temperatures, especially during March.

Residents across Durham Region and the GTA are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts and dress appropriately for colder wind chill conditions.

Although the March 12 weather southern Ontario forecast does not currently include major winter storms, the combination of flurries and strong winds could still make travel and outdoor activities challenging throughout the day.
