Three teenagers have been charged in connection with two separate Bowmanville assaults near a school, Durham police say.
Both incidents occurred in the area of Scugog Street and Longworth Avenue in August. Police said the victims did not know the accused.
Two incidents reported days later
The first assault occurred at approximately 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19. Police said a victim was walking near the school when two male suspects approached and assaulted them.
A second victim was assaulted by a group of youths in the same area at approximately 9:26 a.m. the next day. Each incident was reported to police several days later.
Investigators identified two suspects in the first case and determined that they, along with a third youth, were involved in both incidents.
Charges laid against three teenagers
A 13-year-old Bowmanville boy is charged with two counts of assault. One 14-year-old Clarington boy is also charged with two counts, while a second 14-year-old Clarington boy is charged with one count.
Police said one of the 14-year-olds was held for a bail hearing. The other two accused were released on undertakings.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits publication of information that would identify the accused. The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Police have not released the school name or information about injuries. Anyone with video or other information is asked to contact police.
