A new Bowmanville Industrial Investment Jobs announcement is expected to strengthen manufacturing in Clarington while creating new employment opportunities in Durham Region.
Ganawa Company Ltd., a steel fabrication business located on Lake Road in Bowmanville, is investing more than 4.3 million dollars to expand its local operations and modernize manufacturing equipment.
The Bowmanville Industrial Investment Jobs project will support the reshoring of key manufacturing work back to Ontario while also improving production efficiency.
As part of the investment, Ganawa will upgrade and reconfigure existing equipment and introduce advanced manufacturing technology at its Bowmanville facility.
The upgrades include the installation of a robotic laser material processing system, a welding robot and a five axis CNC milling centre.
These new technologies are expected to improve precision manufacturing and expand production capabilities.
The Bowmanville Industrial Investment Jobs expansion will also bring manufacturing work previously completed in the United States back to Canada.
Specifically, the company plans to reshore the production of strip seal retainers, specialized components used in bridge construction projects across Canada.
Company officials say the investment will help strengthen domestic supply chains and support the development of Canadian made infrastructure products.
Mark Philpott of Ganawa Company Ltd. said the project will help support the provincial government’s goal of building a stronger Made in Canada supply chain.
The Bowmanville Industrial Investment Jobs project is expected to create 15 new jobs once the expansion is completed.
The Ontario government is supporting the investment through its Regional Development Program, which helps local businesses adopt new technology and expand operations.
The province is contributing 646,382 dollars toward the project through the program’s Driving Innovation and Growth through Technology initiative, which focuses on technology integration, skilled labour hiring and reshoring manufacturing operations.
Durham Member of Provincial Parliament Todd McCarthy, who represents Clarington, said investments like this help strengthen the local economy.
He said supporting regional businesses encourages innovation while creating stable employment opportunities for workers and families in Bowmanville.
Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli also highlighted the importance of manufacturing to the provincial economy.
Officials note that Ontario’s manufacturing sector employs more than 800,000 workers, making it a major driver of economic growth across the province.
Through the Regional Development Program, the provincial government has already supported more than 180 business projects, generating over 2.6 billion dollars in investment and helping create more than 5,500 jobs.
The Bowmanville Industrial Investment Jobs expansion represents another step toward strengthening Ontario’s manufacturing industry while bringing new employment opportunities to Durham Region.
