On April 25, southern Ontario is gearing up for a day of wet and windy weather, as rain and gusty winds affect much of the region, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Environment Canada’s forecast predicts widespread showers, chilly temperatures, and strong winds that will make it feel colder than the actual temperature. Residents across Mississauga, Toronto, Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa, and Niagara Falls should prepare for an unsettled day.

Rain Expected Throughout the Day

The day will begin with cloudy skies and rain in the morning, with conditions staying damp and overcast. The 60% chance of rain will persist in the afternoon, with 5 to 10 mm of rainfall expected across the region. Cities like Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, and Hamilton are expected to experience consistent rain, making it a wet start to the weekend.

In the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the rain will be moderate but persistent, leading to soggy roads and lower visibility for drivers. With the persistent showers, residents are advised to carry umbrellas and be cautious when driving. The rain is expected to taper off later in the afternoon, but there will still be some lingering showers across parts of the region as the evening approaches.

Strong Winds and Gusts

In addition to the rain, winds will play a significant role on April 25. Gusts of up to 60 km/h are expected, making the wind the most noticeable part of the day’s weather. These strong gusts will be felt across the GTA, particularly in areas such as Mississauga, Brampton, and Toronto, where wind gusts could peak at 40 km/h to 50 km/h throughout the day.

The winds will make the temperature feel cooler than it actually is. Mississauga and Brampton will experience winds that will create a chill in the air, making it feel like temperatures are much colder than the actual 9°C high for the day. As the wind strengthens, it will add to the discomfort, especially if you’re heading outdoors for any extended period. Be sure to dress warmly and wear wind-resistant clothing if you plan to be outside.

Evening and Overnight Conditions

As the evening sets in, April 25 will continue to bring more unsettled weather. By Saturday night, the rain will ease up slightly, with a 30% chance of showers remaining in Mississauga and Brampton. Winds will continue to gust up to 40 km/h before tapering off overnight. The temperature will drop to 4°C in Mississauga, and the wind chill will make it feel like it’s closer to minus 2°C, so dress warmly before heading out.

On the Niagara Peninsula and Hamilton, the evening will see cloudy skies, with the chance of rain or flurries persisting until late into the night. Winds will gust to 40 km/h, bringing the temperature down to minus 1°C, with wind chills dipping as low as minus 5°C. These chilly conditions will likely extend into the overnight hours.

Looking Ahead to Sunday and Monday

Fortunately, the weather will take a turn for the better as Sunday, April 26 arrives. Expect sunny skies and milder temperatures across the region. The high on Sunday will be around 17°C, with the low dipping to 2°C in the evening. The sunshine will continue into Monday, bringing a high of 19°C, with sunny skies throughout the day.
