The Township of Ajax is condemning an incident of Ajax tree vandalism after 15 newly planted trees were deliberately destroyed at Millers Creek Park.
According to the town, the vandalism occurred recently and has been reported to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) for investigation. Officials described the incident as a deliberate act that undermines community investment in public green spaces.
“This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” said Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier. “A police report has been filed with the Durham Regional Police Service and the incident is under investigation.”
Town staff are scheduled to attend the affected area to remove the damaged trees, with plans to replant new trees during the spring season. The municipality emphasized that protecting parks and environmental assets remains a priority.
The town added that Ajax tree vandalism incidents negatively impact residents and the long-term sustainability of public spaces intended for community enjoyment.
Anyone with information related to the vandalism is encouraged to contact Durham Regional Police.
