Durham police are asking witnesses for information after an Ajax home shooting left a residence damaged near Taunton Road East and Salem Road.
No injuries have been reported. Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there is no known risk to public safety.
Gunfire reported Saturday night
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, officers from West Division responded to the area at about 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, September 13. They found numerous shell casings and visible damage caused by gunfire at a home.
Investigators later determined that the shooting happened at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, September 12.
Police have not released a suspect description, information about a vehicle or a possible motive. No arrest had been announced when the police appeal was published Monday.
Investigators request video
Anyone who was near the Taunton Road East and Salem Road area late Saturday may have information useful to the investigation. Police are particularly interested in cellphone video, dash-camera footage and residential or business surveillance recordings.
Drivers and residents may have captured people or vehicles before or after the gunfire even if they did not witness the incident itself. Investigators are asking people to preserve any relevant footage rather than deleting or recording over it.
The new Ajax home shooting is separate from an August incident near Dooley Crescent and Biggs Drive, where another residence was damaged by gunfire. Police have not announced any connection between the two investigations.
