An Ajax murder trial heard a 911 call and text messages Friday as the Crown continued presenting its case against a man charged in the 2024 death of his girlfriend.
Kyle Severin, 37, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Jennifer Polak. The allegations have not been proven.
Call played in Oshawa courtroom
Global News reported the call was placed from Severin’s phone on March 30, 2024, before Polak was found dead in a Hillman Drive basement apartment. A male caller claimed other people had entered the Ajax home.
Jurors also saw text exchanges between the couple dating to February 2023. The messages included arguments about their relationship, alcohol and alleged infidelity.
The Crown says physical evidence and communications will establish that Severin deliberately caused Polak’s death. Polak was 45, a mother of two and worked at an Ajax daycare.
Those statements are part of the prosecution’s case and remain subject to testing. Severin is presumed innocent unless the charge is proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The trial continues in Oshawa.
