An Ajax hotel firearm arrest has left a 13-year-old facing more than a dozen charges after Durham police responded to an incident near Westney Road South and Bayly Street West.
Durham Regional Police Service said West Division officers were called to an Ajax hotel on Wednesday, September 9, for an unknown-trouble report. Police allege officers encountered a youth carrying a knife and arrested him without incident.
Investigators then received information that the youth might also have had a firearm. A search of the property by officers and the DRPS K9 Unit located a firearm, according to the police release.
The 13-year-old from Ajax has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device. Police also listed two counts of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, three counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, two alleged release-order breaches and four alleged probation-order breaches.
Police said the accused was subject to multiple release orders at the time of the arrest, including a weapons prohibition. The youth was held for a bail hearing.
The accused cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. None of the allegations has been proven in court.
