Durham Regional Police arrested four people found inside a sea container in Ajax last Friday morning, seizing drugs, weapons, and ammunition in the process.
On Friday, May 22, at approximately 8:55 am, members of the West Division Community Response Unit along with frontline officers were conducting proactive patrols in the area of Commercial Avenue and Hunt Street in Ajax when they observed two individuals entering a secured container.
Officers checked the container and located four people inside. All four were taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the suspects led to the discovery of break-in tools, cash, weapons, ammunition, and a quantity of drugs including fentanyl, MDMA, and cocaine.
The four arrested individuals include a 41-year-old man from Pickering, a 47-year-old man of no fixed address, a 30-year-old man from Oshawa, and a 38-year-old woman of no fixed address. The Pickering man and the 47-year-old man were both on weapons prohibition conditions at the time of their arrest.

The seizure highlights ongoing concerns about fentanyl circulating in Durham Region. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid roughly 50 times more potent than heroin, has been linked to a significant number of overdose deaths across the GTA in recent years. Durham Region has not been immune to the crisis, with police and public health officials repeatedly warning residents about the dangers of illicit substances that may contain the drug.
The Ajax drugs arrest also underscores the role of proactive policing in disrupting criminal activity before it escalates. The presence of break-in tools alongside the drugs and weapons suggests the container may have been used as a staging area or storage location for criminal activity. Police have not released further details about whether the container was connected to a specific business or property in the area.
