Durham Regional Police say the collision occurred around 11:15 p.m. on December 31, 2025, near Simcoe Street North and Byng Avenue. The pedestrian was in the roadway when he was hit by a southbound Ford hatchback.
The 28-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. No charges have been announced at this time.
The injured pedestrian was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he remains in critical condition.
Officers from the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
Police are asking anyone who may have cellphone, dash cam, or surveillance footage, or information related to the incident, to contact D/Cst. Hoevenaars of the Collision Investigation Unit.
