A quiet morning in Clarington was shattered on Wednesday when a violent two-vehicle collision resulted in multiple injuries, leaving one teenager fighting for their life. The Durham Regional Police Service responded to the scene on Longworth Avenue, near Jackman Road, at approximately 11:06 a.m. following reports of a high-impact crash. The incident involved a Volkswagen Golf and a grey Ford Explorer, creating a chaotic scene that required a massive response from emergency services and led to the closure of the roadway for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause.

According to the preliminary report from the Durham Regional Police, the Volkswagen Golf was traveling westbound on Longworth Avenue when it made contact with the eastbound Ford Explorer. The force of the impact was devastating, particularly for the younger occupants of the vehicles. In total, six youth required immediate medical attention. The Clarington youth collision prompted a rapid triage process at the scene, with four of the victims being transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor physical injuries. However, the situation was far more critical for two other young passengers.

The most seriously injured individuals were rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre to receive specialized emergency care. While one of those youth has since been listed in stable condition, the other remains in life-threatening condition as of Thursday morning. The community has been hit hard by the news, as the Clarington youth collision involved such a large group of young people during the mid-morning hours. Additionally, a female driver involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital; she was treated for minor physical injuries and has since been released.

Members of the Durham Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) were deployed to the site to conduct a meticulous reconstruction of the event. Investigators remained on Longworth Avenue throughout the day, documenting skid marks, vehicle positioning, and mechanical factors that may have contributed to the crash. At this stage of the investigation, it is not yet clear if speed, weather conditions, or distracted driving played a role. The Traffic Services Branch is leading the ongoing inquiry and is looking for any witnesses who may have seen either vehicle prior to the Clarington youth collision.

Police are urging anyone with information, dashcam footage, or residential security video from the area of Longworth Avenue and Jackman Road to come forward. Detective Constable Emily Vander Duim is the lead investigator on the case. For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, where information leading to a resolution may be eligible for a cash reward. As one youth remains in critical condition, the Clarington community continues to hope for a positive recovery for all those affected by this tragic accident.
