The Ajax Equity Diversity and Inclusion strategy is currently being developed, and residents are being encouraged to share their feedback to help shape a more inclusive future for the community.

The Town of Ajax, recognized as one of the most diverse municipalities in Canada, is taking a significant step by creating its first-ever Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategic framework. This initiative aims to ensure that equity is embedded across all aspects of municipal operations, including policies, programs, services, and workplace practices.

Town officials say the Ajax Equity Diversity and Inclusion strategy will focus on several key areas. These include strengthening leadership and workplace culture, improving inclusive programs and services, and building stronger partnerships with diverse communities across Ajax.

As part of the development process, the town is actively seeking input from residents to better understand the challenges people may face in accessing services or participating in civic life. Officials want to identify barriers, gather ideas for improvement, and ensure that future initiatives reflect the needs of all community members.

Residents have two main ways to participate in the consultation process. They can complete an online community survey, which will remain open until April 17, 2026, or attend an in-person community validation session scheduled for April 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ajax Town Hall. Registration is required for the session.

Through these engagement opportunities, the town hopes to gather valuable insights into how it can create a more inclusive and equitable environment for everyone, regardless of background or identity.

The framework is being developed entirely by town staff, reflecting a locally driven approach to addressing equity and inclusion. Once completed, the final Ajax Equity Diversity and Inclusion strategy will be presented to council in June 2026 for review and approval.

Officials emphasize that community participation is essential to the success of the strategy. By involving residents directly in the process, the town aims to create a framework that is both practical and representative of Ajax’s diverse population.

This initiative comes at a time when many municipalities across Canada are working to strengthen inclusion and address systemic barriers. Ajax’s approach highlights the importance of community voices in shaping policies that promote fairness, accessibility, and belonging.

Residents who wish to learn more or have questions about the initiative can contact the town directly via email. The town encourages everyone to take part and contribute their perspectives to help build a stronger, more inclusive Ajax.

The Ajax Equity Diversity and Inclusion strategy represents a forward-looking effort to ensure that all residents feel supported, heard, and included in the community’s future development.
