Drivers in Oshawa should be aware of a temporary road closure affecting a section of Colborne Street West on March 18, as construction work takes place on a new apartment development.

The City of Oshawa has announced that the road will be closed to through traffic between Kaiser Crescent and Centre Street North from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the day. The closure is necessary to allow crews to safely complete construction activities involving heavy equipment.

According to city officials, the closure is required to facilitate the use of a crane that will be lifting large concrete slabs into place at a new apartment building located at 115 Colborne Street West. Due to the nature of the work, restricting traffic is essential to ensure both public safety and efficient construction progress.

During the closure period, only local traffic will be permitted within the affected area. Residents and businesses along the route will still have access, but through traffic will not be allowed, and motorists are advised to plan alternate routes in advance to avoid delays.

The city has also indicated that emergency vehicles will not have through access during the closure window, making it especially important for drivers to respect posted signs and detours. Proper planning and caution will help minimize disruptions and ensure safety for both workers and the public.

Motorists travelling through Oshawa on Wednesday are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider alternative roads to bypass the affected section. Commuters who regularly use Colborne Street West should be particularly mindful of the temporary changes.

Construction projects like this are part of ongoing development in Oshawa, reflecting continued growth and investment in residential infrastructure. While temporary inconveniences such as road closures may occur, they are necessary to support long-term improvements and housing expansion in the area.

The city expects the work to be completed within the scheduled timeframe, with normal traffic conditions resuming by Wednesday evening once construction activities are finished and the roadway is cleared.

Residents are reminded to stay updated through official city channels for any last-minute changes or updates related to the closure.

As Oshawa continues to grow, infrastructure and development projects like this highlight the importance of balancing progress with public safety and efficient traffic management.
