Drivers in Ajax are being advised to prepare for possible traffic delays as tree removal work begins along a busy section of Kingston Road. The work is being carried out as part of preparations for the upcoming Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project, which is expected to begin construction later this year.

According to the Regional Municipality of Durham, crews will be removing trees along Kingston Road between Harwood Avenue and Rotherglen Road. The work is scheduled to take place over the next two weeks and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

During this time, drivers may encounter temporary lane closures, particularly affecting the right lane of traffic. Officials say these closures will be infrequent and only for short periods while crews safely complete the tree removal process.

Although traffic disruptions are expected to be limited, motorists travelling through the area are encouraged to plan for possible delays and allow additional travel time when using Kingston Road.

The tree removal work is an early step in preparation for the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving public transit between Durham Region and Scarborough. The transit project is designed to create a faster and more reliable bus system along the busy Highway 2 corridor.

While the tree removal work may temporarily affect traffic flow, the Region says bus routes, bus stops and sidewalks will remain open and accessible throughout the work period. This will help ensure that pedestrians, cyclists and transit users can continue to move through the area safely.

The Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit system is expected to provide dedicated bus lanes and improved transit infrastructure, allowing buses to move more efficiently and reduce travel times for commuters between Durham Region and Toronto.

Regional officials are reminding drivers to slow down and remain cautious when travelling near construction zones. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to watch for signage, traffic control personnel and work crews operating along the roadway.

Residents who regularly travel through Kingston Road are encouraged to monitor local traffic updates and consider alternate routes during periods when lane closures are active.

Once completed, the DSBRT project is expected to significantly improve transit connections in the region and support long-term growth across Durham Region.
