Pickering Paid Parking 920 Liverpool Road will soon take effect after Pickering Council approved a plan to introduce paid parking at the municipal lot located at 920 Liverpool Road.

The parking lot sits beside the East Shore Community Centre, but city officials say it is not required for overflow parking at the facility. Instead, the lot is mainly used by customers visiting nearby businesses.

Under the new Pickering Paid Parking 920 Liverpool Road plan, drivers will be required to pay $1.50 per hour to park in the lot year-round. Overnight parking will not be allowed between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. daily.

City council approved amendments to the Fees and Charges By-law No. 6191/03, allowing the city to implement the new parking fee. The changes also create an offense for failing to pay the required parking fee.

Parking payments will be handled through the HotSpot Parking Inc. system, which the City of Pickering already uses. The service provider will receive 15 percent of the collected parking revenue.

City staff estimate the lot could generate approximately $36,000 annually, based on a projected 50 percent weekday usage rate and limited weekend use. After service costs of roughly $5,400, the city expects a net annual revenue of about $30,600.

Drivers who fail to pay for parking could face a $60 fine, pending approval from the Ministry of the Attorney General under the Provincial Offences Act.

Officials say the Pickering Paid Parking 920 Liverpool Road rate may be adjusted in the future depending on parking demand and usage levels.
