Oshawa’s Convergence Music & Arts Festival has been named the Best New Festival in Ontario by Festival and Events Ontario (FEO). The festival, which has been held annually since 2023, celebrates the city’s arts, culture, and creative communities while bringing diverse entertainment to the heart of Oshawa’s downtown.

Since its inception, Convergence has quickly become one of Ontario’s most dynamic festivals, showcasing a wide variety of cultural and artistic expressions. The event has been recognized for its bold programming, inclusive partnerships, and measurable impact on Oshawa’s downtown core, driving foot traffic, boosting local businesses, and enhancing the city’s cultural reputation.

Convergence made an impressive debut in 2023, and since then, it has continued to grow in both scope and popularity, earning a spot on the Top 100 Festivals in Ontario list for three consecutive years. Last year, the festival won an EDCO award for its Inclusive Community-based Initiative, a testament to its impact on bringing the community together through shared creativity.

According to Krista Licsi, Oshawa Tourism Executive Director, the festival reflects Oshawa’s unique identity: “This recognition from Festivals and Events Ontario is an incredible honour for our city,” she said. “Convergence was built to reflect Oshawa’s authenticity and creative spirit. From day one, the goal was to create something that felt distinctly Oshawa. To be named Best New Festival in Ontario and to celebrate our third consecutive year on the FEO Top 100 list speaks to the passion of our artists, performers, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners. This achievement belongs to all of them.”

The festival has made a significant mark by spotlighting Oshawa’s diverse creative subcultures, including indie music, punk rock, comic book and gaming communities, and alternative fashion. The event features a punk rock flea market, Nerd Alley (a space for comic book lovers, gamers, and cosplayers), professional wrestling entertainment, and art installations that transform the downtown area into a vibrant and immersive experience for all ages.

Feedback from festival-goers has been overwhelmingly positive. Attendees have praised the festival for its high energy, excellent music, diverse vendors, and family-friendly atmosphere. “It was such a great time! So many new vendors this year, excellent music, and good vibes,” one attendee shared. Another remarked, “An unforgettable experience!”

Convergence is not only about entertainment but also about strengthening community pride and engaging local businesses. The festival has driven thousands of residents and visitors to the heart of Oshawa, bringing life to public spaces and contributing to a thriving local economy. As Catherine MacDonald Haylock, a local Oshawa resident, described, “The entire downtown was converted into street vendors, food, bands playing, wrestling, you name it. It was an incredible time, and I’m sure they will just continue to build upon it.”

As the festival continues to grow, it is helping to define a new era of signature experiences in Oshawa, alongside other celebrated local events like the Oshawa Boo Bash and Peony Festival. Looking ahead, Licsi emphasized, “Oshawa’s creative energy is undeniable, and when it converges, something powerful happens.”

The 2026 Convergence Music and Art Festival will take place on September 19-20, 2026.
