Winter weather is making a strong return this weekend in southern Ontario. After experiencing milder temperatures earlier in the week, colder conditions are set to take over, with snow and a drop in temperature expected throughout the weekend. According to Environment Canada, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including Durham Region and surrounding areas, will experience chilly weather starting on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

On Friday, temperatures in the GTA reached a high of 6°C, but this warmer weather will be short-lived as a cold front moves in. By Saturday, the weather will be mainly cloudy, with a high of 0°C expected in cities like Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington, Oakville, and Hamilton. The Weather Network predicts a slightly higher high of 2°C for some areas. However, the temperature will drop significantly in the afternoon, reaching -6°C. With the wind chill, the temperature will feel more like -12°C, making it a much colder day than the actual temperature suggests. As the evening approaches, the temperature is expected to dip further, with a low of -10°C in many areas.

In terms of precipitation, there is a 40% chance of flurries early in the morning on Saturday, with a 60% chance of snow expected in the evening. This will likely affect travel conditions, especially in Durham Region and the GTA, where snow may cause slippery roads and reduced visibility.

For Durham Region, including Oshawa, Pickering, Whitby, and Ajax, the forecast calls for a high of around -2°C on Saturday, with temperatures falling to -11°C in the evening. Like other parts of southern Ontario, there is a chance of snow, and Durham could see snow accumulation as the day progresses.

Sunday, March 1, 2026, will bring even colder weather. A high of -6°C is expected, with a low of -15°C. Despite some sunshine, the temperature will feel much colder due to the wind chill. A 60% chance of snow is also forecast, which could bring additional snow accumulation to the region.

As the cold weather settles in for the weekend, residents across southern Ontario, including Durham Region, are advised to prepare for winter conditions. The wind chill will make it feel much colder than the actual temperature, so it’s important to dress warmly, especially when venturing outdoors. Snow on Saturday and Sunday could also impact road conditions, so travelers should plan ahead for possible delays.
