A Festive RIDE stop in Whitby early Wednesday led to multiple charges after officers allegedly found a loaded handgun inside a vehicle driven by a novice driver from Clarington.
Police say the Festive RIDE team conducted a traffic stop around 12:10 a.m. on December 17 near Dundas Street and Brock Street in downtown Whitby. Officers took the 18-year-old driver into custody after observing signs of alcohol impairment.
Following the arrest, a search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a loaded firearm beside the driver’s seat.
Armaan Ali Osmani of Clarington now faces six charges, including three weapons offences, possession of a prohibited device, and two impaired-driving-related offences. One of the impaired charges relates specifically to novice drivers, who are required to maintain a zero blood alcohol level.
Police say the accused was held for a bail hearing.
