Oshawa Hospital text updates are now available to emergency-department patients who choose to receive information about key steps in their visit.
Lakeridge Health announced the new messaging service on October 30, saying it is intended to reduce uncertainty while people wait for care. The system sends automatic messages at selected points rather than requiring patients to seek every update in person.
What the messages may cover
According to the hospital, updates may indicate that triage is complete, provide hourly messages while a patient waits to see a health-care provider, or say when a provider has been assigned and is reviewing the patient’s chart.
Patients may also receive a message when diagnostic tests such as CT scans, X-rays or ultrasounds are ordered.
The announcement describes communication updates, not guaranteed appointment times or a change to how emergency-care priorities are determined. It does not provide a promise of shorter waits.
How to opt in
Patients can sign up when registering at an emergency-department kiosk. Registration or nursing staff can also help people enrol.
A patient may choose to have a family member or support person receive the updates on their behalf. Participation is optional, and patients can decide whether to opt in during each visit.
The Oshawa Hospital text updates are part of Lakeridge Health’s use of existing technology to improve communication under its 2026–2031 strategic plan. The release specifically identifies Oshawa Hospital; it does not announce a system-wide launch at every Lakeridge emergency department.
