A Clarington carjacking left a 58-year-old driver with minor injuries after masked suspects forced him from his vehicle on Thursday afternoon, according to Durham Regional Police.
The police service issued an appeal on October 30 for witnesses and video from the area of Clarington Concession Road 4 and Elliott Road. Officers responded to the incident at approximately 3 p.m. on October 29.
Driver forced to stop
Police say an older black Dodge SUV pulled in front of the man’s vehicle, forcing him to stop. Five to six masked males then got out and approached him.
According to investigators, one suspect reached through an open window, unlocked the door and forcibly removed the driver. Police say the man was assaulted, his pockets were searched, and his wallet and cellphone were stolen.
Investigators say several suspects had handguns. The group then took the victim’s 2026 Nissan Rogue and fled. The driver declined medical treatment for his minor injuries.
Witnesses and recordings sought
Police describe the suspects as five to six males wearing face coverings. Two wore grey clothing, while three to four wore black.
Anyone who witnessed the Clarington carjacking, has dash-camera or surveillance recordings, or has other information is asked to contact East Division’s Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520, extension 2765.
The release does not identify any arrested suspect or announce charges. Its description of the incident is the police account of an ongoing investigation.
