A Durham constable has been suspended without pay after an arrest and charges laid by the Ontario Provincial Police, Durham Regional Police confirmed in an October 27 statement.
The service identified the officer as Constable Tre Hamad. DRPS said an outside police service conducted the investigation and that the matter is now before the courts.
External investigation
Durham police said it takes the allegations seriously and directed questions about the investigation to the OPP. Its public statement did not list the individual charges, specify an arrest date or set out the evidence behind the allegations.
CTV News separately reported that the case concerns a child sexual exploitation investigation led by Northumberland OPP, and that search warrants were executed in Whitby and Ajax. The broadcaster also reported that a publication ban is in place.
This report does not identify any alleged young person or reproduce information that could identify one. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Suspension confirmed by the police service
The suspension without pay is confirmed directly in DRPS’s public statement. It is not a finding of guilt. The Durham constable case remains before the courts, and the service said it could provide no further comment because the investigation was external.
