York Durham Line roundabout construction is beginning at Bloomington Road, with lane reductions and changes to the adjoining road alignment planned along the Durham–York boundary corridor.
York Region’s official project page identifies a fall 2026 start and anticipated completion in late 2027. DurhamRegion.com reported on October 23 that construction had started on the $14.8-million project.
Signals to be replaced by a roundabout
The project will reconstruct the intersection and replace its traffic signals with a roundabout. York Region also lists alignment work involving Tenth Line and York Durham Line.
The intersection is identified by the project authority as being in Whitchurch-Stouffville. Its direct local relevance is the work on York Durham Line, a boundary road used for travel between Durham and York; it is not a Durham Region council project.
Off-peak lane reductions expected
York Region advises travellers to expect lane reductions outside peak periods and weekend work. The October 23 local report also describes night work when required and says access to driveways and entrances will be maintained.
The official project page does not provide a day-by-day schedule of restrictions. Drivers should follow temporary signs and check the project authority’s updates before travelling through the area.
York Region describes roundabouts as circular intersections where traffic moves counterclockwise around a central island. It identifies lower operating speeds, continuous traffic flow and fewer collisions among their potential benefits compared with a signalized junction.
The York Durham Line roundabout work also involves the relationship between the intersection and Tenth Line to the south. No additional Durham road closure or detour is inferred from that alignment work.
The late-2027 completion date remains an anticipated project timeline, not a promise that every construction stage or lane restriction will last until that date.
