The new Brennan Othmann contract keeps the Pickering-born forward with the Calgary Flames organization for one more season.
Calgary announced Friday that Othmann signed a one-year, two-way extension with an average annual value of $975,000. The structure allows the 23-year-old winger to move between the NHL club and the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.
Othmann joined Calgary in March
Othmann began 2025-26 in the New York Rangers organization, splitting time between the Rangers and Hartford Wolf Pack. Calgary acquired him on March 6.
He played two games for the Flames after the trade and recorded two points. He also appeared in 14 games for the Wranglers, letting Calgary assess him at both levels.
The contract does not guarantee a full-time NHL spot. It keeps Othmann under team control while allowing him to compete for work in Calgary and continue developing in the AHL.
Pickering forward brings international experience
Othmann was born in Pickering on January 5, 2003. The Rangers selected him 16th overall in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
He won consecutive gold medals with Canada at the 2022 and 2023 world junior championships. In major junior hockey, he was part of the Peterborough Petes’ 2023 OHL championship team.
During his first full professional season, Othmann scored 49 points in 67 games for Hartford, ranking second on the team and earning an AHL All-Star Game selection.
The Flames list the left-shooting winger at six feet and 192 pounds. Their announcement did not say where he will start the season, leaving camp competition to determine his assignment.
One-year deal creates an opportunity
A one-year term gives Othmann a short window to establish a larger role. Consistent production could strengthen his case for a longer contract when the extension expires.
