Durham Region is heading into the final weekend of August with sunshine, comfortable temperatures and breezy conditions Friday before warmer weather arrives Saturday and the chance of showers increases Sunday.

Mainly sunny Friday across Durham

Friday is expected to remain mainly sunny through much of Durham Region.

Environment Canada forecasts northerly winds around 20 km/h, with gusts reaching 40 km/h before winds become light during the afternoon.

The daytime high is expected to reach 22 C.

The UV index will reach 7, which Environment Canada classifies as high, so people spending extended periods outdoors should consider sun protection during the middle of the day.

Conditions remain pleasant Friday evening, with only a few clouds expected.

Temperatures will fall considerably overnight, reaching a low near 10 C in Oshawa and Pickering.

Saturday looks warmer and mostly dry

Temperatures climb Saturday, Aug. 29, as the weekend gets underway.

Environment Canada forecasts a mix of sun and cloud with a high around 25 C.

Humidity will also become slightly more noticeable, producing a humidex near 27.

Southwest winds are expected to increase to around 20 km/h late Saturday morning, with gusts potentially reaching 40 km/h.

The UV index remains high at 7.

Saturday currently appears to offer some of the best conditions of the weekend for outdoor plans, with no significant rainfall in the daytime forecast.

Cloudy periods develop Saturday night as temperatures fall to around 16 C.

Shower chance returns Sunday

Conditions become less settled Sunday, Aug. 30.

The Durham Region weather forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers during the day.

Despite the increased rain risk, Sunday will also be the warmest day of the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach about 27 C.

The chance of precipitation rises Sunday night, when Environment Canada forecasts cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of showers.

The overnight low is expected to remain comparatively mild at 18 C.

Residents with outdoor plans Sunday should therefore keep an eye on updated forecasts, particularly as the timing and location of showers can change.

Unsettled conditions may continue Monday

The possibility of showers does not disappear with the weekend.

Environment Canada currently forecasts cloudy conditions Monday, Aug. 31, with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high near 26 C.

Monday night also carries a 40 per cent chance of showers, with temperatures falling to around 18 C.

Longer-range forecasts can change, especially when it comes to precipitation timing and coverage.

For now, the latest Durham Region weather outlook gives residents a mainly sunny and cooler Friday, a warmer Saturday and a more unsettled Sunday as August draws to a close.
