The Town of Ajax is welcoming a major new employer after global logistics leader Geodis secured a five-year lease for approximately 470,000 square feet at the Lakeridge Logistics Centre, a move projected to create roughly 100 full-time jobs in the community.

Geodis, which operates in 166 countries with nearly 50,000 employees across more than 1,000 sites worldwide, will use the facility at 537 Kingston Road East as a logistics and warehousing centre primarily serving Milwaukee Tool. The new operation is expected to generate approximately 100 full-time positions, with additional contract and seasonal roles created as demand requires.

Operations at the facility were anticipated to begin by the end of May, marking Geodis’s first location in Ajax and adding to its growing footprint across Durham Region.

“Their arrival represents a significant addition to our industrial business community bringing new employment opportunities and further economic activity to Ajax,” the Town of Ajax said in a statement announcing the development.

Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier expressed enthusiasm about the investment, noting that a company of Geodis’s global scale choosing Ajax reinforces the town’s position as a strategic location for logistics and distribution in the Greater Toronto Area.

“On behalf of Ajax Council, I want to express our excitement that Geodis has chosen to invest in Ajax. Operating in 166 countries with nearly 50,000 employees across more than 1,000 sites worldwide, Geodis is a major addition to Ajax’s growing industrial and employment base,” Collier said. “This investment reinforces Ajax’s position as a strategic location for logistics and distribution, and we look forward to the economic benefits and job opportunities this project will bring to our community.”

Bahi Kamalanathan, Geodis Senior Director of Operations, said the Ajax facility represents an important milestone for the company as it expands its Canadian operations.

“Ajax is an exciting milestone for us, our first location in the community, adding to our growing footprint across the Durham Region. As a third-party logistics provider, we serve a wide range of clients across industries, and this new facility gives us the infrastructure and location to do that at scale,” Kamalanathan said. “Milwaukee Tool is a great example of the kind of partnership we build, and we look forward to growing our presence here and being a strong employer in this community for years to come.”

The Lakeridge Logistics Centre is one of the largest distribution and logistics facilities in Ontario, spanning 1.2 million square feet. The building holds class-A zero carbon certified industrial status and still has between 250,000 and 740,000 square feet available for lease, suggesting room for additional tenants and future job growth.

The arrival of Geodis adds to a wave of industrial and commercial development along the Kingston Road East corridor in Ajax, which has become a magnet for logistics companies seeking proximity to Highway 401 and the broader Greater Toronto Area market.

For Durham Region job seekers, the 100 new full-time positions at Geodis represent a meaningful addition to the local employment landscape, particularly in the warehousing and logistics sector where demand for workers has remained strong despite broader economic uncertainty.

The Town of Ajax has been actively courting major employers as part of its economic development strategy, and the Geodis announcement represents one of the largest single job creation announcements in the community so far this year.
