Several restaurants closed January 2026 across Ontario, affecting dining destinations in Pickering, Toronto and Niagara. The closures include long-established venues as well as newer concepts that had built strong followings.

Bier Markt (Toronto)
Bier Markt permanently closed its Esplanade location near Union Station after decades in operation. Known for its expansive beer selection and event-friendly layout, the restaurant thanked guests for years of support but did not provide a reason for the closure. Its Ottawa location remains the only Bier Markt operating in Ontario.

Dessert Lounge (Pickering)
Dessert Lounge closed its Pickering café at 2200 Brock Rd., ending operations after three years. The dessert spot was known for its visually styled interiors, specialty sweets, and halal menu options. The owner confirmed the closure followed months of consideration.

Tim Hortons (Niagara Falls)
A Tim Hortons on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls closed its doors in January. The company confirmed the decision was made by the former franchise owner, who plans to repurpose the property for other business uses.

Prenup Pub (Toronto)
Prenup Pub announced it will close its downtown Toronto location on College Street on Feb. 8. Open since 2014, the pub was known for European draught beers and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. The owners said events will move to a nearby sister restaurant.

These restaurants closed January 2026 amid broader challenges facing Ontario’s dining industry, including rising costs, changing consumer habits, and evolving business strategies.
