A Whitby man, Alden Nunes, 26, has been arrested and charged in connection with a mugging and assault that took place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the area of 14th Avenue and Birchmount Road in York Region. York Regional Police are still searching for two additional suspects involved in the robbery.
According to police, the male victim was walking to his car when he was approached by two suspects who demanded he hand over his satchel bag. A struggle ensued, and during the altercation, the victim was assaulted. The victim sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
After the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in a silver sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a third individual. The York Regional Police quickly launched an investigation into the incident, which led to a raid at a home in Whitby, where Alden Nunes was identified and arrested.
Nunes has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was taken into police custody, and investigators are still working to identify and locate the two other suspects involved in the crime.
One of the suspects is described as a Black male with a medium build, standing around 5’10”. He was wearing a black hoodie, black Air Force 1 shoes, and a mask during the incident. The third suspect, who was driving the suspect vehicle, remains unidentified, and there are currently no further details on their description.
In an effort to solve the case, York Regional Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspects to come forward. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
