Ajax Town Council has given the green light to a massive two-tower development that will transform the area near Ajax GO Station. During the March 23, 2026 council meeting, Ajax Council unanimously approved the plans for a 62-storey mixed-use development at 190 Westney Road. The approval came after a request from 190 Westney Holdings Ltd., which sought official plan and zoning bylaw amendments to build the two towering structures.

The development will consist of two 53-storey towers, built atop a nine-storey podium, making it one of the tallest and most ambitious developments in the Durham Region. In total, the project will contain 1,254 residential units, along with hotel suites and 5,162 square metres of commercial space. The mixed-use design aims to combine living, working, and leisure spaces, aligning with the town’s vision of creating a vibrant urban centre for the community.

The site for the development has been identified by Ajax as part of the town’s intensification areas, specifically within the GO Transit Station Mixed Use Area. This area is designed to promote higher-density developments and reduce car usage by providing convenient access to public transit. The intention is to create a thriving mixed-use centre where residents and businesses can coexist, offering a variety of services and amenities that serve commuters, residents, and visitors alike.

The approval for this development comes with a strong endorsement from Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier, who utilized his strong-mayor powers to move the project forward. The proposal was met with widespread support from Ajax Council, and the decision was passed unanimously by all members present at the meeting. The project’s approval marks a major milestone for the town’s growth and development plans, as Ajax continues to evolve as a key player in Durham Region‘s urban development.

This development is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the town, both in terms of job creation and the expansion of local services. The inclusion of commercial space within the towers will likely foster new businesses, while the residential units will help meet the growing demand for housing in the Durham Region.

As the town prepares for further development, this ambitious two-tower project is expected to set the standard for future mixed-use developments in Ajax. Residents can look forward to a more modernized urban landscape, with greater access to public transit, services, and amenities.
