New Whitby Fieldgate Sports Complex Jobs are now available as the town prepares to open its largest recreation facility later this summer.
The Town of Whitby is currently hiring more than 85 staff members to support operations at the new Fieldgate Sports Complex, located on Baldwin Street just south of Highway 407 near the Brooklin community.
Officials say the Whitby Fieldgate Sports Complex Jobs will include a variety of part time and full time roles needed to operate the major recreation facility once it opens.
Available positions include lifeguards, recreation program staff, facility operations workers and customer service team members.
Town officials say the new jobs will help bring Whitby’s largest sports and recreation complex to life while providing meaningful employment opportunities for local residents.
Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy said the facility will become an important community hub where residents can gather, stay active and participate in programs.
She added that the Whitby Fieldgate Sports Complex Jobs will also provide opportunities for young people entering the workforce for the first time.
The Fieldgate Sports Complex is described as a state of the art recreation facility designed to serve the rapidly growing community.
When completed, the facility will feature Durham Region’s largest swimming pool, along with a twin pad arena, multi purpose gymnasium and wellness studio.
Additional amenities will include a three lane indoor walking track, meeting rooms and dedicated arts and cultural spaces.
The complex is also designed to be accessible and inclusive for all visitors.
Accessibility features will include wheelchair ramps, widened automated doorways, slip resistant flooring and ramp access into swimming pools.
The facility will also include gender neutral and universal washrooms and change rooms, as well as barrier free signage to improve navigation.
Outside the complex, a new community park will include pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts and a multi purpose sports field.
Plans also include a playground, skatepark and pump track designed for children and youth of all ages.
The Whitby Fieldgate Sports Complex Jobs announcement comes as the project continues to take shape ahead of its official opening.
Fieldgate Homes secured naming rights to the facility through a 1.5 million dollar agreement over ten years.
The outdoor sports field will be named Roybrook Field in recognition of land donated by Roy Ormiston.
Town council also approved naming a multipurpose room the Mitchell Room in honour of former Whitby mayor Don Mitchell and his family.
Town officials say building a strong team is essential to delivering quality recreation services once the facility opens.
