Two teenagers are facing a range of charges following a Sneaker Theft , assault, and weapons-related incident in Oshawa, Ontario, earlier this month. The incident, which involved the theft of a pair of sneakers and an assault at a local high school, resulted in charges for the suspects, including weapons offenses.
On March 2, 2026, police responded to an assault call near Cedar Street and Porter Street, located in the south end of Oshawa. According to reports, the victim had arranged a meeting with two suspects outside a residential building to sell a pair of shoes. However, the suspects reportedly stole the sneakers during the transaction and fled the scene.
In a disturbing turn of events, the two suspects were later involved in a second altercation at a Durham College Athletic Complex during a high school basketball game. Police say the suspects targeted a second victim at the game, where they assaulted him using an imitation firearm before fleeing once again.
After the second assault, the two suspects were quickly identified, and investigations led to their arrests. Khalil Adama, a 19-year-old from Ajax, surrendered himself to police on March 9, while the second suspect, a 17-year-old from Pickering, turned himself in on March 30, 2026.
Adama faces several charges, including robbery, assault, disguise with intent, three weapons charges, and four probation violations. Notably, Adama was on a weapons prohibition at the time of the offenses, and the use of the imitation firearm in the assault added to the severity of the charges.
The 17-year-old suspect is facing robbery, disguise with intent, and failure to comply with release orders. This individual was also under strict conditions not to use online marketplace applications, a condition he allegedly violated when he arranged the sneaker sale.
This incident, according to police, was isolated, and the suspects and victims are known to each other. Despite this, the Durham Regional Police Service is continuing its investigation and is calling on anyone with information or footage from the scene, including cell phone, dash cam, or surveillance footage, to come forward.
The police have assured the community that this was not a random act, but they are committed to ensuring justice is served and that the streets of Oshawa remain safe.
Both suspects have been held for bail hearings, and further updates will follow as the case moves through the judicial system.
