Rotary Park Pool Opening Celebrated in Oshawa

The Rotary Park Pool opening has brought swimming, water play and family recreation back to one of Oshawa’s best-known community parks after a lengthy redevelopment process. The new outdoor pool welcomed residents on July 22, 2026, during two free community swim sessions marking the completion of the pool, splash pad and playground.

The reopening follows the closure of the previous pool at the end of the 2019 season after serious structural problems were identified. Rotary Park had served Oshawa families for generations, and the loss of the pool left a noticeable gap in local summer recreation. Community consultation later showed strong support for rebuilding the facility, helping move the redevelopment forward.

Modern Pool and Recreation Features

The rebuilt Rotary Park has been designed as a modern community recreation destination. The outdoor pool includes four swimming lanes, a zero-entry section that allows gradual access to the water and a separate toddler pool. The site also features a destination playground, a splash pad, upgraded pathways, a redesigned parking area and additional park amenities.

The City of Oshawa selected the Rotary Park redevelopment as its centennial Legacy Project. The park’s history stretches back nearly 100 years, making the project both a major recreation investment and an effort to preserve an important gathering place for future generations.

Although the facility is now open to the public, the City says the contractor is still completing minor finishing work. These remaining details are not preventing residents from using the pool, splash pad or playground.

Free Swimming for Oshawa Residents

Oshawa residents can access free leisure swims during the pool’s first summer season by obtaining a free Rotary Park Pool Season Pass. The pass allows eligible residents to attend scheduled drop-in leisure swims, subject to capacity limits, and register for swimming lessons offered at the facility.

Proof of Oshawa residency is required, and the pass is not transferable. Residents must check in and scan their pass card when attending a swim. Non-residents and people without an eligible season pass must pay the regular admission fee.

The City’s swimming schedule includes lane swims, family swims and recreational fun swims. Admission is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and capacity or time limits may apply to provide fair access for visitors.

Community Welcomes the Reopening

The opening-day response showed the level of interest surrounding the long-awaited project. Oshawa Councillor Brian Nicholson said photographs he shared of the new pool, splash pad and playground attracted more than 100,000 views over five days. He described the public reaction as overwhelmingly positive.

The redevelopment was initially discussed at a much lower estimated cost, but construction inflation, pandemic-related supply pressures and project changes increased the total over time. The final project has been widely reported as costing nearly $25 million.

The Rotary Park Pool opening gives families another place to cool down, learn to swim and spend time outdoors during the summer. It also restores a recreational tradition that many residents associated with the neighbourhood for decades.

Visitors should review the current swimming schedule, admission rules and weather-related service notices before travelling to the facility. Parking at Rotary Park is limited, although temporary alternate parking is available at nearby schools during specified hours.

With the new pool, splash pad and playground now welcoming visitors, Rotary Park has returned as a major community destination just south of downtown Oshawa.
