Residents in Ajax are being invited to help shape the future of the Ajax Community Centre (ACC) as the town moves forward with a proposed $60 million renovation and expansion project.
The Town of Ajax has launched a public survey asking residents to provide feedback on three concept design options for the upgraded facility. The project aims to significantly expand and modernize the ACC to better meet growing community needs.
What’s being proposed?
The expansion plan includes:
- A new gymnasium
- A warm-water teaching and therapy pool
- Indoor walking track
- Fitness centre
- A new Ajax Wall of Fame
- Dedicated pickleball courts
- Community room upgrades
- Facility-wide accessibility improvements
- Security system upgrades
- A backup power generator
The town previously hosted a public information meeting on December 16, and the online survey will remain open until January 14 to gather community input.
What’s next?
- Concept designs are being developed by Diamond and Schmitt Architects, under a contract valued at nearly $268,000
- Once designs are finalized and the budget approved, construction is expected to begin in late spring 2027
- The final project cost will be confirmed after the conceptual phase is complete
The Ajax Community Centre currently serves as a hub for recreation and culture in the town, hosting numerous community groups and amenities, including minor hockey, boxing, skating, judo clubs, the YMCA Early Years Centre, and a rock climbing facility. Outdoor amenities include sports fields, tennis courts, a skate park, and cricket facilities.
